Correspondence Chess
Correspondence chess is chess played by various forms of long-distance correspondence, traditionally through the postal system. Today it is usually played through a correspondence chess server, a public internet chess forum, or e-mail, email. Less common methods that have been employed include fax, homing pigeon and phone. It is in contrast to (OTB) chess, where the players sit at a chessboard at the same time, or play each other in real time via the internet. Correspondence chess allows people or clubs who are geographically distant to play one another without meeting in person. These distant relationships are just one of the many distinct appeals of correspondence chess. The length of a game played by correspondence can vary depending on the method used to transmit moves: a game played via server or by email might last no more than a few days, weeks, or months; a game played by post between players in different countries might last several years. Iluska Pereira da Cunha Simonsen (22 February 1941 – 28 March 2017) was a Brazilian chess player who held the ICCF title of Lady International Correspondence Chess Grand Master (2000). Biography In the mid of 1970s Iluska Pereira da Cunha Simonsen was one of the leading Brazilian chess female players. She has participated in many Brazilian Women's Chess Championships. In 1978, in Brasília Iluska Pereira da Cunha Simonsen participated in the Women's World Chess Championship South American Zonal Tournament and shared 5th-6th place with Julia Arias. Iluska Pereira da Cunha Simonsen played for Brazil in the Women's Chess Olympiad: * In 1978, at second board in the 8th Chess Olympiad (women) in Buenos Aires (+4, =5, -0). Curt Hansen (chess Player)
Curt Hansen (born September 18, 1964, in Bov, Sønderjylland) is a Danish chess grandmaster and a former World Junior Champion. He is a six-time Danish Champion. Chess career A strong junior player, Hansen had major successes in international youth competitions, commencing with the then Groningen-based European Junior Chess Championship, where he finished first in 1982 and second in 1983. The next year, he became the World Junior Champion in Kiljava, ahead of Alexei Dreev and beating the defending champion Kiril Georgiev, and was awarded the International Master title. In 1985, he became a Grandmaster after earning the necessary norms. In domestic chess, he succeeded Bent Larsen as Denmark's strongest player and between 1983 and 2000 won the Danish Championship six times. By 1992, his rating had reached 2600 and later the same year rose to 2635, giving him his best ever ranking, tied for 14th place on the FIDE list.
